REX MURPHY will receive the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (honoris causa) from the University of Haifa at the 2020 Mount Carmel Dinner in Toronto. The award recognizes Rex's lifelong contribution as one of Canada’s leading writers and commentators on social and political issues; for his outspoken and steadfast support of the State of Israel, and for his denouncement of the BDS movements, particularly as they relate to academia.

A Rhodes Scholar, Rex was born and raised in St. John’s, Newfoundland, where he graduated from Memorial University. Rex is a trusted face and voice across Canadian media. His intellect and humour strike through to the heart of profound political and social issues.

Rex was a frequent presence on the various branches of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). He had regular commentary segments entitled “Point of View” on The National, the CBC’s flagship nightly news program. He was also the regular host of CBC Radio One’s Cross Country Checkup, a nationwide call-in show.

The author of two books: “Canada and other Matters of Opinion” and “Points of View”,  Rex Murphy is currently a contributor  to The National Post as political affairs’ critic and analyst.
